Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What do you do with old latex paint?

A. Latex paint can be disposed of  by drying it out.  Simply take the lid off the container.  You can add cat litter or sawdust to the remaining paint to speed up the process. The paint will dry completely in a day or two. Leave the lid off so your waste hauler can see that the paint is completely dry, and set the paint can beside your regular trash for pickup.

Q. What do you do with household hazardous wastes if you are moving?

A. Disposal is available at the District’s annual
Tox-Away Day, held the first Saturday after Labor Day. Ask a family member or neighbor to hold the material until the collection day. If you need more immediate assistance, contact the District for options.  DO NOT LEAVE YOUR TOXIC CHEMICALS FOR THE NEW HOMEOWNERS!

Q. What do you do with yard waste such as grass, leaves and brush?

A. Take your materials to one of the two
compost sites in Allen County. You may also consider starting your own compost bin to dispose of such materials.

Q. How do you get rid of old appliances such as refrigerators and air conditioners?

A. Refrigerators and air conditioners contain chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) that must be reclaimed before disposal or recycling
